PHOTOGRAPHS: PORTRAITS
John Brook from a 1973 interview on influence of music on his art:
“As for influences it would be musicians, specifically Sibelius, rather than any philosopher, and the visual artist who had some influence was Gordon Craig, a designer of theater sets. That is about the only visual influence that I can specify. I have always been more interested in music than the visual arts … I am not particularly interested in visual art. I spend a tremendous amount of time listening to music, and so the time other photographers spend going through books of photographs and going to shows, I spend listening to music.”
— Many of the portraits of musicians shown in this slide show were made on assignment for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
